Concept
A festival built around its own categories.
Sundance is a celebration of independent film and a platform for new voices in cinema. Its categories are structured differently than any other festival, which called for a cataloging approach built around that structure rather than around a generic template.
The challenge
Many parameters, one browsable system.
The festival spans a wide range of parameters, film length, genre, origin, format, and existing systems struggle to hold all of them at once without becoming cluttered or hard to browse.
The solution
A shape and a color for every category.
Each category was given its own shape and color language, so visitors can navigate the site through three distinct paths depending on how they want to explore. The result is a browsing experience that adapts to the visitor rather than forcing one fixed structure on everyone.
The website
Three ways to explore the festival.
Visitors can browse by category, by location, or by tags. Choosing what interests them builds a personal list of films, each marked with the shape and color of its category.

The brand
From the screen to the festival grounds.
The same marks carry through posters, tickets and wristbands, so every touchpoint points back to a category.
